How do we do the right thing? Human beings abuse one another verbally, physically, and sexually. We steal and kill. We lie and break promises. We are unkind to one another. We ignore the sufferings of other people. We are blind to the delicate balance of nature, and treat nature as though it exists purely for human use. We do have praiseworthy and noble things about us, but there is evidently some flaw in us. What is wrong with us? The answer is Sin. We make light of sin because society does, but sin is a serious thing. The sin of self-deception has led us to believe many things because society has made them acceptable. Television and movies depict actions and attitudes as acceptable that the serious disciple recognizes as sin. The government legitimizes issues by making them legal. We make excuses for questionable actions and attitudes because living a Christian life is hard. Life would be easier if we could allow ourselves to choose the easy way out which is why we often choose to sin. How do we do the right thing? Follow your conscience and heed what the Holy Spirit reveals to you. In instances where you disagree with the Church, examine why you believe or feel certain things and why the Church takes the position that it does. Really examine why you feel a certain way. Why does the Church take the stance that it does. Look at the Church's reasoning before you decide that you don't agree with it. If you don't know the answer, research the issue in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. You may conclude that you agree.
